One responsibility of the sports agent is to create a detailed career plan for the athlete.  The athlete and manager will work together to set long- and short-term goals for the growth of the athlete.  Some other duties are but not limited to allocating rest time, setting up and overseeing training programs and selecting the right competition.

In the event of injuries, media controversies or any other unexpected setback the athlete agent is the first line of defense on the behalf of his or her athlete.  The sports agents will step in and offer solutions to manage the crisis and help with public relations. 

The athlete agent negotiate the athletes and coaches sports team contracts.  But the manager is responsible for negotiating endorsements deals, sponsorship opportunities and all media rights deals.  The overall financial well-being of the athlete is a major role of the sports agent.

Not only does the sports agent assist with the career aspects of the athlete but they also assist with the personal aspects, also.  The agent will help and find assist in the athletes personal development and growth, providing media interactions and counsel, financial management and public behavior.
